Did you know that in the early 1700s, two registered charities were formed to benefit the residents living in the village of Harlestone?

Educational Charity:

This supports young people under the age of 25, living in the Parish and where assistance is sought for financial help with educational provision, including:

  • School uniforms
  • Musical instruments
  • School/college/university books and equipment
  • College and university interview travel costs
  • Apprenticeship tools/clothing

In recent years, applications have been considered and specific financial contributions made towards study materials, books, school uniform and play equipment and storage for the local school and Mums and Tots Club.

Relief in Need Charity:

Financial support may be provided to any person resident in the parish for over 5 years, who may need financial assistance with any of the following:

  • Security prevention including lights, door and window locks.
  • Utility bills
  • Draught proofing, insulation
  • Home decorating bills
  • Hospital visiting costs

Each case is considered in complete confidence and specific financial grants may be made.

If you are resident within the Parish or know of anyone within the Parish, who may appreciate one of the small but useful grocery Christmas Parcels delivered to several of our residents each year, please let us know as well.

On average 20 parcels are delivered each Christmas, and these are very well received. Support is given from Harlestone Primary School with pupils assisting with wrapping and the creation of Christmas cards.
